Yes
I am ready to buy a second body but I am not sure if Nikon are going to suddenly announce a new camera which will knock the D300s price and in turn knock the secondhand D200. If you follow me.

I need to have a second body in June. I have more weddings to shoot that month so willhave to buy it then.

Does anyone know of anything happening or should I jut get one right now!

IF it does happen, I doubt the prices will drop that much by June.
I may be wrong though!!

There is a lot of speculation about a D400.

But even if one is announced tomorrow - it probably won't be in the shops for several months. And the price is an unknown - the Yen is VERY strong currently so products from Japan are getting much more expensive.

If you need a second body, want a D200 and can find a good one at the right price, why not just get it?

Also, with price rises and the credit-crunch there is likely to be less turnaround in second-hand cameras - so a used D300 may not drop dramatically in value/cost as you might expect.

As you shoot weddings have you considered a new Fuji S5 Pro? ;)

do it

Just as what wack61 said (y)

Middle of last year I sold my D200 (which I considered to be in mint condition after getting it back from Nikon for service that cost me £160). Sold it here for just under £500.

Consider the time since then, and the recent price increases .. I'd put a good minti 2nd-hand D200 at the £400 mark.

have you bought one yet?

Hi Fox you have one but you also have a Nikon so whats your honest opinion on the Fuji..may look at them but I am a brand whore really:)

They are doing 450 to 500 squids on FleaBay at the moment...

:p

Brand new S5 pro is in the region of £470 - £520

i had this problem a few weeks ago, for me the d300 was bit too much money and d200 wasn't really a great performer in low light. I was dubious at first, im also a bit of a brand whore, but it made the most sense so got a fuji. its great! possibly not quite as good as d300 in low low light but im loving it and if i need/want something better in low light id go for d700.

and if low light isnt your priority then def get one :) search on flickr for tags with s5 pro to see quality of pics. (i havent put that many on my flickr with the fuji)

The D200 is a great camera and if you use specialist noise reduction software you get perfectly good results on a D200 at High ISO. I know as I did a test (of sorts) to compare my D200 + Noise Ninja with my D700.

The S5 is an option although its menus and usability isn't as good as the Nikon stuff, plus it is as slow as a very slow thing so unless you only use it for weddings the D200 is a better all rounder IMO.

Ok D200 it is now not June right now, I just need to get one!

Thanks for all the help guys

yeah its slow but its worth the wait (unless you want to use it for motorsport etc)

I've never checked that out, and I try to avoid flea-bay as much as possible. However, if that's the going rate then I stand corrected ... and I have to say I am not the least surprised.

The D200 is one fine camera, and amazingly great at low ISO.

If you search on flickr there are many S5 pro users that use it for motorsport and wildlife inc. birds in flight, so not a bad a rep as people like to make out
