Yes
Ordered a canon 18-135mm stm yesterday for my 550D as a new walkabout lens for when im away backpacking.
I am now starting to think i should perhaps cancel the order and just bite the bullet and pay the extra and get the 15-85mm which seems like a much better lens although quite a bit pricier.
This is for an upgrade from my original 18-55mm kit lens. I mostly take use it for photographs of buildings and scenery and just general travel photos.

I think only you can decide Daniel. The 15-85 is a superb lens but hasn't the reach of the 18-135 obviously so you need to decide what you will use the lens for.

I use the 15-85 as my standard lens on my 7D and it rarely comes off except for sports and wildlife.

Its up to you
Is that the only lens you have
Like every one (well a few) say get lenses from the lowest mm to the maximum you need
Like I have wide angle lenses to telephoto so it covers nearly all ranges
But if you just do buildings then wide angle is best

So having the longer lens might not be best

On the 18-55 do you find yourself hitting 18mm or 55mm more?
Do you generally shoot wide open or stop down?

If you shoot wide open a lot/or hit 18mm a lot then cancel.
If you are at 55mm wanting more reach, and often shoot stopped down, the lens you have ordered is likely better for you.

OK, very simplistic terms. I'm encouraging you to buy based on you needs not on which is the better overall lens.

Thinking about it i use it more wide open and probably only crave a little more reach most of the time.
I think I was just put off by the price but in reality I think I am much better off just taking the plunge and paying the extra if im paying over 300 I might as well pay a bit more and get the right lens.

Yep, sounds like the 15-85mm is the better lens for you in the end

I could do with some advice as to which Lowepro toploader to buy to fit this in as i don't have time to order one after it comes i could really do with ordering one now.

So it came and although I haven't been able to take it out yet i think i have made the correct choice. Liking the fact its wider and actually surprised at how much of a difference that it makes just in the house. Feels very well made and despite what i had seen in reviews on youtube there is no barrel creep at all (although im aware this can develop with age)
Looking forward to getting away to Oz next week now and putting it to use.
