I currently own a Nikon D3, which is a lovely camera. I am mainly interested in travel, cultural and environmental photography. I have a big year of traveling coming up with one 3 month Adventure through Africa and several smaller trips also planned. This got me thinking about the weight of my current setup, with said camera, plus 28-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8.
Although i never thought of relinquishing my D3, however after using the D700 for some time the other day, i was suddenly unsure. The picture quality was very god, obviously, and in a noticeably smaller package. As a result i have now began to seriously consider downsizing. The only major concern being that the D700 will not be able to cope with dusty conditions as well as the D3.
Downsizing would also give me the opportunity to get a second body too (a d200 perhaps).
I would some advice on this, especially if anyone as used to D700 in dusty environments.

Stick with the D3. Surely you're used to the bulk already. I used my D3 for almost 3 weeks solid last year in France. It either had the 24-70mm or 70-200mm on all day.
