Should I keep this D90?

Yes
I passed Jessops the other day, not looking for a camera.
I did an impulse D90 purchase, thinking that I could return it within 30 days as long as it's in good condition.

Curse it, I fell in love with it, and it makes me neglect my original D80. It did cost me £799 for the D90, but didn't think I would keep it.

I just don't know what to do now, I want this D90, but I know my funds will be tight. Haha, damn Nikon making these upgrades more appealing than the previous gens.

The D90 is a world different to the D80. Keep it, your shots will benefit, no doubt.

Excuse the ignorance here but how is the D90 a world different to the D80? Im not saying it isnt but would just like to know why you say that.

Thanks.

Well, having owned both the D80 has a bigger viewfinder, better screen, hugely better sensor with incredibly good high ISO performance and is faster too.

The D80 is still a good camera, but the D90 is a BIG step up, in my experience.

Ahh yes, the sensor would do it for me too. And the screen. And it has live view. Ahhh, your making me want to upgrade now! (I use a D80 by the way)

It's amazing.
Get it at Jessops, and return it within 30 days if you don't like it.
That's what I had in mind, but it's changing my mind...

What do Jessops do with the camera you return? Sell it as new or used?

Should be as used or refurbished but my guess is sometimes they will go back to the store room as brand new.

It can't go back out as new, especially if it's been used for 30 days. Returns usually turn up with a 1 year Jessops guarantee in the clearance section of certain branches with a £50-100 discount...

I have my doubts that you'd get a straight refund after 30 days if there was any sign at all that the camera had been used.

I traded in my D80 for a D90 this summer. Great camera. Keep it!

i bought a 2x telecon on the understanding that i could return it , no questions asked after 28 days , it was useless anyway

12 mp v 10mp, cmos sensor compared to ccd, 4.5 fps v 3 fps, hi def video, bigger screen. 3200 iso v 6400 iso (and better high iso proformance), it's more or less a d300 in a d80 body.

My advice would be to keep it, it really is a cracking camera and only the pull of FF is making me think about trading in mine...

Anyway, I hope if you turned back up at Jessops after 30 days having used the camera for that period they would check the shutter count there, laugh in your face and send you away, personally I think it's taking the **** a bit taking an unused item and playing with it a month before returning it and expecting your money back. Just my opinion of course!

I bought my D300 from Jessops after someone had previously bought it and returned it a week later. The regular Jessops price at the time was £999 and I paid £740 so it cost Jessops £260 for someone to borrow a camera for a week. Even the guy I bought it off said he suspected the guy had only bought it to use for a holiday or wedding and never intended to keep it. Obviously it worked out in my favour and I got a bargain but it's bad business for Jessops if they can allow people to do this.

I suppose they should have something in the T's and C's about cameras with a shutter count of less than 500 can be returned within 30 days. Even then you can buy 2 x D3x and go to a wedding, rattle off 499 images on each then return them for a refund. Hmmmmm tempting

I've decided to keep this amazing camera, and sell my old one.

I didn't intend to start a moral discussion here about the return of a camera within 30 days, as that was not what I planned to do. So folks, rest assured that you won't be seeing my unit in your Jessops should you buy a D90 :)
