Depends what you want from your lens. The 24-105 is a great lens, but is really designed for a full frame sensor as it frames like a 39-168mm lens on your 50D, so you not taking full advantage of the 24mm wide angle. The 17-55mm is also a great lens and will frame like a 27-88mm lens because of the smaller sensor on your camera. The question you have to ask yourself is, what focal length I'm I taking most of my images at with the 24-105, if 24 and wanting more, perhaps think about getting the 17-55mm, or do you need the faster lens because of the conditions you taking your photography in?

I have the 17-55 2.8, because I find 24mm on a crop is not nearly wide enough for walkabout, plus it does f/2.8 at all focal lengths. I also have the 10-22 and am always grateful for the overlap - saves changing lenses all the time.
If I was on full frame, I would swap to the 24-105L immediately. Apart from the fact that the 17-55 wouldn't fit, it's a brilliant lens and an even greater range on full frame. But not for crop.
