I know questions get asked a lot about brands but im at a crossroads again.
I used to have sony and made the big jump to expensive nikon ownership a few years ago.
I feel the equipment now holds me back and i have 2 choices... upgrade nikon equipment or sell up and move to canon.
I currently shoot with a d300 and for decent shoots i borrow a friends 24-70 2.8.
I have also used the d700 on occasion when shooting weddings and parties/events as a 2nd.
Now this could be down to camera settings, but a friend shoots with a 5d2, 24-70 2.8 and a 70-200 2.8
The images of people seem to come out with such a nice tonal range. Skin looks nicer and the images just seem to pop slightly more.
The images im producing seem to have slightly darker shadows and slightly lighter highlights making the image a bit harsher.
Is this down to settings i may have wrong? (i have everything pretty much from the factory) i shoot in manual and tend to have very similar settings to my friend with the 5d2.
The 2 things i seem to be shooting more and more are macro and people.
My choices are sell the d300 and upgrade to the d700
or sell the d300 and nikon kit (lenses, flashguns etc) and get the 5d2 and canon kit.
Is the 5d2 just better for this kind of photography or can i adjust settings within the d300 and d700 to produce better tonal results?
