Should I take more ?

Off to Paris in the morning.

Family holiday - explore Paris and have 3 Christmassy days at Euro Disney with Samuel (aged 22months!).

Therefore it's not gonna be a BIG photo holiday, although I do obviously want to get some shots !!

We're also flying, taking pushchair and using public transport in Paris. I want to travel light. Snow also predicted so will be carrying enough clothing without weighing myself down with kit.

For that reason I am leaving the 70-200mm behind! ;( Decided to try and challenge myself photographically by only taking a nifty fifty and also a 10-20 for some landscape shots.

Am I being mad ?

I do have a kit lens (not for long once I upgrade to the Tamron /2.8), but can't be bothered taking it. My thinking is the nifty 50 and the 10-20 are pretty light, and they will also get me thinking more about my shots and composition.

The wife will also be taking her little Panosonic Lumix in her handbag for 'quick and easy' snapshots.

So, should I take more or am I well covered ?

Cheers

Anth.

Hours to go (off to bed now!) and not one reply :(

Oh well, above kit is packed - wish me luck! (I'll need it, we're flying with Easyjet!).

Au revoir !

Hi Anth

Unless you have a very well behaved child or a very understanding wife or both I would be going with the Pannny P&S spare cards a nd a charger.

As someone who has seen the amount of photographic kit I take out on trips and holidays slowly reduce as son one and then son two came along I can totally symapthise.

If we are in the car I will smuggle in what I can (40d 10-22 17-85 70-300 all in one bag) for those times when I can sneak off for a few photos, but normally it's just not worth the hassle.

I should add that my wife (while admiring some of the pitures I've taken) was once heard to utter the phrase "photography is the definition of a waste of time" so you see my problem.

Do let us know how you get on in Eurodisney, I want to take our boys to Disney in Florida but keep getting asked "what's wrong with Eurodisney"

HTH

I think you've just had your luck i.e. flying with EasyJet! Have you heard of the chaos on Eurostar - you could have been taking pictures of the inside of a tunnel for 12 hours

Enjoy your break

Eurodisney would be my idea of hell! Travel light - and you'll be fine for pics.
(Disneyland in Florida would be equally bad!) LOL

Given the option of Florida or Paris I would go to Florida everytime. Ive been to 3 of the 4 disneys and Paris is the worst. The park is fine nothing wrong there but the cast members didn't have the disney spark that Florida and California have. The main problem was the people in the park ignorant doesn't come in to it, constant pushing in the line trying to get in front of you and others are just blatent and climb over barriers, at the other 2 parks they would be on to it and out you go no questions Paris the don't see anything.

As for what to take? I took my 500D to Anahiem in September, kit lens and 50mm in a crumpler 3000 bag. It was actually a pain in the butt carying it round, not really wanting to leave it when on rides but also not wanting it to sit in a locker all day. When I had it in the bag it sat ok on my back but when it was in use then the bag was light and moved about too much. i would just take the point and shootand enjoy the holiday if I could do it all over again. Luckily it wasn't our first trip to Anaheim.
