Should you keep a backup lens

I asked about a good wide angal lens and mentioned what kit I had. Question is I'm booked for a few weddings next year, so if for any reason the canon 24-70 fails and I sold the 24-105 to fund the 16-35.How would I manage ? yes I would have the 70-200 as well any thoughts.

How about a 50mm f1.8 for dire emergencies? Kerso is selling them for £70 (£75 with a UV filter) delivered this month.

You have the 70-200?

That for longer range shots, the 24-70 on the 5D2 and a 16-35 mounted on your 50D when you're mingling among the guests should get the job done. Why do you think your 24-70 may fail anyway? You could consider a 85/1.8 as a spare. It'll make a great portrait lens.

I think it's a good idea to go through each item of kit in your bag and ask yourself what you would do if it were to fail. (Or get broken by a guest, etc.) You might have alternative items which would do the job (eg the 50/1.8), or you might change your approach/technique. But if you can't answer the question either way then it points to the need for some sort of additional backup.

Well I been booked for a few wedding and I do quite a bit of karate pictures. Which is low light indoors, not sure if i really need the 16-35mm. I do have a big gap in my kit at the wide end.
