Yes
So i've got a 400d, and was at silverstone with my mate who has a 40d.

I had my 70-200F4L, and he had his sigma 70-300 f4-5.6DG.

We swapped lenses first, and i disliked the sigma lens, then we swapped kit, and used our own lenses, and WOW, the 70-200 balances perfectly with the 40d, and the 40d is so much more easy to use, and is much more nice to hold, and it seems that it is much more bigger through the viewfinder, brighter, and much easier to see what's in focus.

I now want rid of my 400d, and i now want the 40d. :(

One problem was, was that i wasn't used to the much increased FPS, so instead of taking one pic, i was taking 2 or 3.

Anyone else really wanted something camera wise after using for a fair few shots?

Wait until you look through the viewfinder on a 1 series ;)

Yup, a 1d Mk3

Oh, and if you liked the 70-200 f/4 on the 40D wait until you try it with an f/2.8 on it  I forsee a poor defenceless credit card getting bashed!!!

The dark side still calls padawan!!

I've only got a £500 credit card, but a £2k interest free overdraft

As for kit, I know, i really want to have a look through a 1D.

And as for an f2.8, i'm thinking of selling the f4 and my 24mm f2,8, and then putting a few more quid together for the f2.8.

Don't really use it enough tbh to warrant the f2.8.

Do yourself a favour and don't look through the 1D, it will be love the first time you press the shutter!!!

That's what happened to me, I was quite happy with my 20D up to that moment :(

i hjave felt used the 40D and i only have a 400D. Since reading about the 50D i am really waning to get that now! it will never stop i tell ya! 400D to 50D is gonig to be a massive jump.

I crack a smile everytime I pull the 40 out of the bag. (y)

I had the same experience a few months back,(400d v 40d) and Ive been looking at 40d's ever since. Its made my 400d seem so lacking, even though when I first bought it it felt fantastic..
In car terms it was like jumping out of an Escort rs turbo and into a Mitsubishi Evo. It just did everything better, faster and more precise. I would refuse a play with a 5d or a 1d.. That would be Ferrarri and Rolls Royce territory.

Ian.

How did we manage in the old days when the only power winder we had was our thumb and the autofocus motor was our other hand.
What I am trying to say is take your existing kit to its limits and use your skills to push it,just changing cameras every 5 minutes just because the new one is out will only improve the smile on your bank managers face not your photographic skills

I have a 70-2004 f/4 L IS and had a try of my friend's f/2.8 IS version. It was a heck of a lot heavier, but the thought of an extra stop and better bokeh keeps me looking at it. :(

I have a 40D and am not looking forward to the new Canon full frame body being released because I'll just want one!

Know what you mean... I tried a D300 and a 1D MkIII the other week, back to back.

I want to buy them both now, take them apart and make the perfect motorsport camera using the pieces from them both. Watch out soon for the Cankon D300 MkIII :D

Yep don't look through the 1d series and especially dont try it with the 300mm 2.8 or 500mm F4 L's. I immediately bought a 1dmk2n and now am saving for the two big lenses!

Oops newbie posting.... should i post a hello somewhere?

I just love looking through my 5D's viewfinder with the 16mm fisheye on...

I can almost see my shoulder blades its great :)
