Show us yer film shots then!

This past Saturday, I went shooting in MacArthur Park / Westlake district. It is one of the highest crime infested areas in L.A. My wife hates me going out there as Cameras are the enemy and few if any are ever seen.
As luck would have it, I had just put down my ME SUPER with a Tokina 28mm lens on a bench while I sat down to rest and some guy that ran like a Gazel came by and snatched it up. It was less than 5 seconds and it was gone just like that.. I had already shot two rolls of Ilford XP-2 and was on my third. Anyway, it is a very difficult place to shoot at but ended up with a few decent pictures. Here are two of the ones I liked. Thanks for looking.

Okay, yawn, here are some sight-seeing pictures of Fort Casey on Whidbey Is, WA, when we finally had a nice day a couple of weeks ago.

Fort Casey was part of a three-fort defense system built by the U.S. Army to protect the entrance to Puget Sound with construction starting on the fort in 1897. It had 10-inch (254mm) disappearing guns capable of a 10 mile (16km) range. But soon airplanes and ships with greater range made the disappearing guns obsolete. The fort was eventually decommissioned but reactivated during WWII as a training center. Its guns were melted down as part of a scrap drive. In the 1950's it became a state park and similar guns were brought in from the Philippines and installed for display.

That sucks. Sorry to hear that. Fortunately, you weren't shooting with a SMC Pentax A* 85mm f1.4 ;)

Gulp! I've plenty of P&S cameras from 50p to £1.50, for places like that.

Shot on Monday night at Arc Studios Preston's monthly Film Club.

First outing for a newly purchased Polaroid Image camera using Impossible Project PZ600 Silver Shade Film.

Such fun trying to protect the picture from any light the moment it gets spat out the front of the camera :)

I've just got a couple of rolls developed by the stand devving machine that is Woodsy. This is a frame from the roll of Pan F stand developed in Rodinal (1:100 I believe). I really need to get into gear and get more scanning done!

 
Anything for the shot. I had to step on the cat's tail and jump in front of it to capture it's moment of pain. Just kidding. I was just in the right place at the right time.

It might interest you to know that Panatomic-X is still around as 70mm aerial film. If you get a 70mm back for your Hasselblad (and cut the film down, it is 2000 feet long!) then you can use it again. Of course if you really want to you could cut it down to 120 size and respool it to use in your other MF cameras as well.

I wanted to test this film out but wasn't going to wait for doing a portrait test on someone. So I did something I really don't do very often, the flower shot. I thought this would be a good time to put my helicoid extension tube to use that I've rarely used since I don't have a macro yet for either of my MF cameras. To my surprise, you can't use a leaf shutter lens with it. I had to dig out the fixed extension tubes.

I'd also note something I've found so far. The scan preview was very pastel, NC. But when I scanned to a DNG file, it opens up in Lightroom very VC. And if I saved it as a regular TIFF file from the scanner, I get a NC version. I think with a figital work flow, VC and NC films is moot point with these New Portra films. But I still need to try it outdoors and on people to verify that.

Nicely done...I find some flower shots difficult esp many coloured petals which diffuse into each other.
I was checking out this 85-210 sun zoom (erm and it's VG) and I think this red Peony would be very difficult...a challenge for the forum, have a go if you see one.

AlanSmithee, you seem to be the new kid on the block around these parts - looking back over the last few pages your film shots are super impressive.

Me and scanning sensia did not go on. I wonder if having them mounted rather than left as strips has anything to do with it! I much prefer the ektar and negative in general at present.

Yep, I have been an admirer of his work for the past couple of year at PF...This is why I am important. Someone needs to lower the bar below average so that it brings balance to the film universe here at TP :)

I know it's meant tounge in cheek but don't put yourself down Javier! You've got a great distinctive, casual style to your photography which I can recongise instantly as yours whenever I see one of your images post. I look forward to seeing more from you :thumbs: I also concur that AlanSmithee is knocking out a wide range of wonderful high quality photos on here. All good stuff :)

And thank you. You have a style and that's important. I look at all your postings. Some have a subtle touch of irony or contradiction in the scene and some just capture the rawness of the moment. Keep it up.

Can't tell you the exact price but it isn't very expensive. As for quality, well.... depends where you go. My Adsa is ok really never had any real problems but others, I believe, are not so good, you'll have to try them and see.
