morning,

reason for this thread, basically i have just taken delivery of a 1560 case and im searching for ideas on layout before i pluck all the foam to bits..

specifically looking for ideas on the foam cases on having stuff under other stuff in smaller holes.

also anyone else with a 1560 do you think that a sig 70-200 could stand upright?

idea so far:

left space for a 2nd body at some point, 2nd flash can sit next to the 580 maybe layed horizontal. then accessories hidden under the 70-200 and/or flashes maybe?

cheers :)

I much prefer dividers to foam - you can re-arrange them as kit changes. I doubt the 70-200 will stand up.

agree with awp.. lose the foam. you will regret not having dividers.. they are expensive but well worth it.. chances are when you get it all worked out.. a day later you wil think of a better way.. thats how it happens :)

no offence but i didnt really want to turn this into a foam vs dividers thing.. basically i chose foam as i think it will be more secure, plus im not likely to buy any more kit for a while (maybe upgrade the 18-50 but thatll use roughly the same space) so once ive got a layout it should stick for a while. plus the dividers are like 80 quid plus another 40 for the lid organiser..

:)

1600 with dividers

wow what can i say.

nice and easy, and modify the layout one and very happy with the padding

No offence but when your given good advice from people who have been through exactyl the same then try not to poo poo it so quickly :) Time will tell my friend.. time will tell :)

dont bother with the foam, get padded dividers.

I can get 300 f/2.8 400f/2.8 135 f/2 and both MKIII'S in mine, plus loads more kit in the lid organiser

you can either buy the case with foam or padded dividers IIRC they made by peli, same with the lid organisor

One thing I would look at is makeing sure the larger heavier bits are at the bottom of the case when its on its wheels, you don't want it top heavy.

1610 with dividers, bought from some geezer on here. You just adjust as you take or buy new stuff. Got a smaller one that is only used for wedding kit, that has the sponge as it very rarely changes.

save yourself a few quid...........

I knew I had a pic somewhere.

no thats fine but if youd like to shout me the cash to buy the dividers and lid organisers that would be great..

in the meantime ive got foam and its staying..

:)

I have two cases which i load when going on canoeing trips.
In case one, most frequently opened, i have :
D70s with sigma 24-70mm f2.8
D70 with sigma70-300mm f4.-5.6
My Nikon action ex Binoculars.

In the second case i have my other Lenses and flash:
SB800
Sigma 30mm f1.4
Sigma 12-24mm 4.5-5.6
Sigma 105mm f2.8
Teleplus DG 2X Tele
Filter Kit
GPS
Phone

I have experimented with foam that came with the cases but never been happy and also found that it started to deteriorate after a while.Has been in and out more times than i can remember.
I thought about dividers but thought they where expensive for what they are.
Then i thought about kit bags that where the correct size to go in the cases.
I ponderd over this for quite some time and in the end opted for using the eggshell foam in the lid's,a thin peice of foam on the base then using two ccs zoomsters for case one plus padded binocular case. For the second case the lens cases the lens came in.

Ok its not as fast gaining access but its all quite snug and the added protection from the elements, sand ,grit and water spay ,the cases offer seems to justify this.

Will take a pic and post later.

I got myself a 1450 from ebay. It's only for travel though so will not carry much. So far all i've put in is 40d+17-40 and grip (grip off camera). I think i'll make space for batteries and filter and that will do. The other lenses + flash, etc... can stay out for now!

I also have an orange 1300 when something smaller is needed, it's just a shame i can't really fit the 40d, 17-40 and grip in there though! Well i can, but only with no foam/protection.

what about if you ditch the grip? if its a relative rarity is all good anyway :p

I don't have a peli as i am cheap, however....

its strangely theraputic making all the shapes too :cuckoo:

edit - oh and the 1.4x is hidden on the end of the 120-300.

I make foam packaging for a living and will be machining some custom foam to go into the spare case that we had kicking round at work.

Pics to follow soon (ish).

I don't bother with foam or dividers, just bung the whole Lowe-Pro bag in there with my laptop in a neoprene case and all the rest of my hard-drives, cables and assorted junk.
Pad it out with spare towels and socks.
And lock it.
The peli case is only used for long-distance travel where I'm not going to be able to carry it all myself. Safer to have all the shiny kit in something waterproof and reasonably unbreakable.
When I'm actually working, the peli just becomes a glorified suitcase.

Have you actually tried to test it's "indestructible" capabilities?! Figured I'd ask you as you're most likely to give it a go (and have the right tools to try!:D )

I'd heard rumours that they could be run over with one of the US Cougar vehicles and would survive.

theres vids on the peli site by (i think) a 3rd party testing co?

Yeah, I'd seen them...apparently some "enthusiastic" members of various units in Iraq/Afghanistan have been trying to replicate the same videos.

Not sure how much truth there was in that though...be interesting to know ;)

3 elemental heads, 40cm BD + grid, 2 reflectors, 2 barn door/grid/gel sets, snoot, 24" softbox + speedring, 2 10m extension leads, bag of gel sheets, vinyl shower curtain, few other bits and pieces, all the cables, inside the elemental 'studio foam box' that has been butchered a bit, all inside peli 1650. does the job. will post a pic at some point...
