Shutter count for Canon

Hi,

One of these questions I'm almost too embarrassed to ask. How do I tell the shutter count on my 40D? I assume that it is not as simple as assuming that if the last image is called 6543.jpg then that's it? Is there a menu option I've not found or what?

If you have the Canon software installed on your PC you need to download

EOSINFO

It's a little program that when you run it, it interogates the camera and gives you an accurate shutter count.

The image number is inacurate as it doesn't include test shots without card.
 
Any ideas to get the shutter count off a 7D on a Mac? Dont have access to anything windows anymore :/
 
I'm not sure you can get a shutter count from the 7D without it going to Canon
 
Thanks for that. So, do you have to use that programme then? I've never used their own software but I should be able to find it somewhere.
