I have the nikon d40 which i have had for nearly 2 years, can soemone tell me how to find out the shutter count and is it easy to do

Alternatively, Flickr shows the data for photos if you allow it to and haven't reset your D40 ever.
Assuming you have a Flickr of course.
 
You can't reset shutter count - only image number.
 
Right this might me being a little simple i have downloaded it and cant seem to find the shutter counter...help please
 
Take a jpeg that has not been processed - i.e. straight from the camera - in Opanda - under 'Makers Note' section look for 'Total number of Shutter Releases for Camera.

NB - not all cameras give this info - I don't know about yours. The only camera I've had that didn't give it was the D100.

Yes. I should have mentioned that resetting your image number is what I meant. I've never reset my D90 or D60, so essentially their image numbers are their actuation counts.
 
I've just tried this prog but can't see the shutter count...is it me:)

I'm on Win7 64bit

Its totally accurate -what makes you think is showing the wrong amount ?

google "KUSO EXIF"

download one of them
install
open photo - right click - open with KUSO EXIF - sorted.....:cool:
