I've got my 1D Mark III up for sale, and lots of folk are asking for the shutter count.

I thought that this could only be done at Canon UK.

If anyone knows of a method (preferably for a Mac) I'd be grateful.

Personally, I wasn't too bothered about the shutter count when I bought it, they're typically good for a few hundred thousand.
 
I do my Nikon thru Opanda Exif - but I'm not sure about if it works on a mac thou...

I'm sure that someone else asked this question a while ago as well regarding Canon - if I find the link before anyone else posts the answer then I'll post it...
 
I've tried every different method around that I can find to get the shutter count out of my 1D3 and to no avail.

As it's going off to Canon to have the measles removed from the Sensor this week I'm going to ask them for a count whilst they have it. :D
 
Only way is to send it to an authorised Canon repair centre
 
Thanks guys, confirmed what I thought.

How do I convince people that the shutter count isn't really an absolutely definitive health check of shutter failure.

I understand it that the shutter , on any camera, can fail at different shutter counts etc.
 
You can't :D

Some will choose to pass the camera by, some will choose to buy.

I paid top dollar at Focus for my 1D3 only to find after some testing that it has 148 glow in the dark pixels. Hence going back to Canon.

I suppose it boils down to people wanting to try and insure themselves against having to have a major repair done within a short space of buying.

Myself I go on the overall condition of the camera, I wouldn't buy something that looks battered to death, hence me passing over 2 x 1D2's at Jacobs not so long ago, both lloked liked they had had a hard life.

My 1D3 is a Canon refurb and looks and operates like new, but has sensor measles. To me it just proves your either lucky or not. Thankfully mine came with 6 months warranty so it's going for a trip to Canon :D

My 1Dc died at just 25,000 or so actuations. Mirror box assembly had failed (dunno how just know the repair bill was twice what the camera cost me!). On the plus side, my Mk II is still going strong into it's 70,000th actuation! *touch wood*
