Shutter lag on GF1 or EP1

Yes
Do these non optical viewfinder cameras suffer from shutter lag like compacts do?

Surely they must a bit as the live view on the rear screen/ electronic viewfinder require the shutter to be open to view then it must close before firing for the shot.

Any cmpact suffers shutter lag for exactltly the reason you state. The sensor has to adjust from live view to capture and that takes time ... not a lot, but it's there none the less. I use the ixus 100 compact and the shutter lag on that is terrible if I use live view. turn it off and use the optical finder and its as quick as an slr.

Agreed sheddy but I don't recall having read about shutter lag in reviews. It's the most annoying thing about compacts for me.

It's a perfectly good question about those specific cameras, and I for one would very much like to know the answer on the GF1 front. Had I found a shop in Newcastle today that sold the 20mm kit, I wudda had one. The GF1 is a very expensive camera, so you'd hope that it might have something over 'lesser' compacts in terms of shutter lag.

Hopefully we'll hear from owners of these cameras very soon. :D

Yes, I've heard that about the Pen... The GF1 is pretty quick to focus too, not by DSLR standards, but for a compact, its very good. The GF1 is compact in size only, in every other way its much more like a DSLR.

The panny is very responsive and really feels like the button is releasing the shutter. There is none of that impression the press starts a chain of events that ends with the picture being taken you get with a compact.

This is how quick it is...

No way I could have got that moment successfully with normal compact. I realise throwing snowballs in a graveyard is a bit odd :D

That does look like DSLR timing!

I would have expected they had it sorted but I wonder how. I'd love a GF1 to replace my Panasonic compact. Too pricey for me just now.
