Shutter not firing

No
I covered my local 5k event today, as I did last week. I experienced a problem today in that the shutter sometimes wouldn't fire, for up to say 5 seconds, which is a long time when shooting a running event.

Is this likely to be a card issue? I was using a Sandisk Ultra II that I bought off eBay a couple of weeks ago. I never had any problem when taking 450 shots at last weeks event, but for some reason this week was completely different.

I'm just hoping it isn't a camera issue.

Could be your buffer waiting to free up space, do you shoot RAW in continious mode?

No, I shoot JPEG as the pictures have to go on the website in the afternoon, and also shoot single mode.

i bought a 256 card for my olympus C765 and it stores reasonably fast
i then bought a 1Gb...and it takes ages ...perhaps 5 sec's to reboot to shoot again

my take is that the central processor is low on power and wasnt designed to use 1Gb

the cam came with a 16Mb...that tells me a lot

perhaps this is the case with your electronics...not enough headroom

Mine's an 8GB, just find it strange as I never had this problem last week. I'll try a different card later and see what happens.

it was just a thought..8Gb sounds huge to me..and for jpeg should be slick enough to do a 10Mp recording on the card...
the card contacts should be clean and they recommend not even touching the gold part
good luck anyway
cheers

Right, sussed it by looking around on google. the buffer was getting full on both cards in a short space of time, turns out this is due to Active D Lighting being on. So if anyone else has the same problem on a Nikon, there's your answer.

BRILLIANT Dman....your are D man:thumbs:

There's only one buffer - regardless of how the camera is writing to the cards (1+2, 1>2, consecutive, RAW to one and JPEG to the other, etc etc...)...
