Shutter Release Cable

Im wanting to have a go at some light trails and star trails but i dont have a shutter release cable. I know these arent essential but thought it was about time i invested in one.

I use a Sony a200 and have seen a couple on ebay

As you see these are really cheap. Will these be any good and if not can anyone recomend one that would be?

I use a cheap ebay wireless shutter release and it does the job perfectly fine.

Nice one ta for that. Have you ever ordered one from hong kong? Not sure if it'll turn up?

Bought mine from the 'bay' came from HK, had it a year and still working fine, cost me less than £5, Canons offering was £60, no brainer.....

I can't see how they justify £60 what a rip off. How long does it take for stuff to arrive from HK?

10 days ish, doesn't matter really when you save so much. Just use the self timer in the meantime :)

I suspect the cheap knockoffs work quite well. I have a genuine shutter release cable my nikons but they are so expensive for what they are. I bought a knockoff battery grip a couple of years ago and it came with an infrared remote shutter release, which I don't think the real nikon grip even has.

When I bought radio flash triggers they came with a cable for the shutter release so you can use those as well and don't even need line of sight.

You would think the camera manafacturers could at least be reasonable with the pricing on some of their accessories but I guess that's too much to ask :p

Yeah, I used the self-timer until I got my cable. I got mine as a gift, so it's quite a nice one, but given how simple they can be, a cheap one should be fine.

And like what's already been said, I wouldn't worry too much getting stuff from HK - I've never had anything disappear on me from there!
