I bought a shutter release a while ago for my 450D so its a small jack input yet i have recently upgraded to the 7D which is a completely different inout altogether.

Can i get an adaptor for the shutter release or have i got to get a new one altogether..?

Shutter release is the Canon RS-60E3

Yes it's annying that they use a different plug, my wireless jobby from my 350D is useless as well. I need to get round to buying a new one.
 
Yep you will have to get a new one as they are a different design
 
Head to amazon and get one, I got mine for about a fiver I think, I nearly passed out when I saw the official one's price (about £45 I think :eek:) for what is a cable with a switch on the end!
 
Cheers, i saw a decent one with a timer and stuff on for £20 quid on ebay so will go for that as i would like to do some time lapses
 
You and I are lucky in that both the 5D2 and your 7D are the only two high-end Canons that have an IR remote port on the front, so I use the little RC-1 remote controller - £20.

TBH, it's not much use at range (maninly because the lens and grip shield it) but from cable-release distance it's perfect. And no fiddling about with cables and sockets. I keep it stored on the tripod with a velcro pad.
