I think the 150-500mm is the sharper of the two, since it has less of a range of focal lengths. Have a look at the 120-400mm OS lens as well, it's a great piece of glass.

The new 50-500 OS is quite sharper than the 150-500 (and more expensive!).

The older 50-500 non-os is a bit sharper but you lose stabilization so you really need a tripod to use it.

any pics from these lens also welcome, and the 120-400 too.. :)

An uncropped photo of Goldfinch on garden feeder taken at 500mm on a dull afternoon through the glass of the kitchen window so may be a tad soft

nice shots mike, im not to worried about os, ive never used it on zoom's so wont miss it, and have spoke to many people with the canon 100-400L who say they turn there is off!!..

all lovely pics guys.. :D
also are the hsm motors the same? what are they like for speed AF doing a BIF shot?

without nit picking i think the quality is the same, it looks as though its down to whether you want to start with 50mm or 150mm, OS or non OS, and of course the user..

what body was used with the bullfinch shot?
