sigma 10-20 UV filter?

What people? Which Sigma 10-20?

Either way no problem. One version takes a massive 82mm, but you'll be better leaving it off anyway.

Hi Rob, my 10-20mm has a Kood 77mm UV filter on it, no problems with vignetting at wide end, nor any colour cast.

Have a search on here for the thread I started with regard to this lens/filter combination... members then recommended the B&W range for its quality and lack of any cast, but for me, the Kood does the job perfectly and at a fantastic price. I got mine from Premier Ink.

Sigma make their own UV filter for this lens. 77mm is about £35.

i was under the impression the lens front element would hit a filter...

I've used with a 77mm Hoya CPL with very good effects. No vignetting effects and definitely it will not hit the lens.

If you have a real close look, the concave structure level will not raise upto the filter thread grooves. A filter is must for this lens as it protects your front element.

I might be wrong but I can't imagine anyone would produce a lens with a filter thread that results in a filter hitting the front element. That would be a rather large mistake for the company. I have a canon 10-22mm and have used a B+W ten stop on it a few times. I must admit I screwed it on the first time with absolutely no thought for the risk of the two pieces of glass meeting and scratching but thankfully, the front element is far enough away.

This would make sense.

cheers for all the help guys and gals... filter fitted :)

cheers

bob :)

If you get a chance to shoot a street scene at night with bright lights, or a sunset, or car headlights, first with the filter on and then with it off - well don't.

If you do, you'll realise you've just wasted your money :(
