No
I've just started to get the Error01 message when I take photo with my Canon 450D. It's been working fine up until now. What can I do?

If the lens is attached properly, the first thing id try is gently cleaning the lens contacts.

Nope doesn't seem to work. It doesn't do it on any other lens. Just this one.

Stupid thing.

Well that error is related to the connection between lens and body, so maybe you should have it looked at. Have you checked the contatcts on the body anyway?

Nothing wrong with the contacts on the body.

If you look at my previous posts regarding this lens, I've had so much trouble with it.
I might just sell it and get rid of it.

I had this same problem. To solve it I got a cotton bud soaked in WD40 and gently cleaned the contacts. There was no visual damage but this worked.
I trust if you sell it you will let prospective buyers know the fault?!

Haven't done anything with the lens. Just thinking about it now.

Would methylated spirits be safe to use on the contacts?

Although I have put this lens on ebay, I've been looking at it again and it seems that it only works from f4 to f4.5. Any smaller aperture and I get the Error01 message.

Cleaning the contacts doesn't work.

I would like the lens if I didn't have this stupid problem or the fact that its focuses badly on the left side.

I have run out on what to do about it to get it in working condition.

Should I just sell it?

Depends on whether you want to or not... I presume it's still throwing the error code for you, so if you're keeping and the suggestions a few mo this ago didn't work, then you're probably going to have to have it looked at / repaired. I presume it's outside the warranty period now ?

If you are selling it, you will have listed it with the error code - so you'll get some money back from it.

If it was me, I'd look at what was it going to cost me to have it repaired v how much could I then sell it for compared to how much would I get with the fault. Also do you want the lens or not - no real pint in getting it repaired if you are then going to leave it sat in your bag / selling it (unless it's financially worth it).

Yes it's out of warranty now.

I listed it on ebay for £85 and someone has placed a bid on it straight away.

I wouldn't mind it getting it repaired, but quite frankly I don't think they can do anything with the lens as I sent it off to Sigma twice. I could ask my local camera shop to see what he says........I once took it in some years ago, and he said that he couldn't find any problems with it. He tried it without a tripod and he said that the focusing was bad, but then he put it on a tripod and he said it was fine....... I gave it a few shots after, but gave the lens up.

Sounds like you've lost faith in it and even if it was repaired, would you be happy with it.

Well if you've a bid on it, should attract attention at that low price and hopefully you'll get some interest

Yep I have lost faith in the lens. I just can't be bothered with it any longer. Shouldn't have wasted my money on it to be honest.

Obviously I would be happy with it if it was repaired.

Tried using it again and I managed to get it working for about 20 shots.

Edit: Cancelled the item on eBay. Going to see if I can get it sorted out. Now where's that Sigma email address...
