All,

Just wondered if anyone has any experience or views when comparing these two lenses.

Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 EX DC HSM Lens
vs
Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6 DC HSM Lens

Kind regards

I guess not!

I'm wondering the same thing at the moment, have you made a decision yet?

Bump for an old thread as I see that Park have some Sigma 8-16mm's for sale.

Thanks Simon.

I bought the 8-16 last week from park (before sale :bonk: )

Although i havent used the 10-20, I used a 10-24 once before, and didnt really believe peoples reviews until i saw the extra 2mm for myself, opens up a whole world of difference!

As with most UWA it is a little soft at the edges, but much better than most, and better than I expected.

One thing you may consider a downside is filter compatibility.

Lab test results and review...

You dragged up a 7 month old thread to tell us that a camera shop is selling a lens?

Sorry looking at my post I can see how you have come to that conclusion.

I bumped this thread as I am interested in getting either a 10-20 or 8-16 so rather than start a new thread I searched and came across this one :)

Hitech do actually do a holder for the 8-16mm now although its not cheap...

Not cheap at all!
Saved the link though, thanks.

One of my snaps from last weekend, not the best picture, and quality is compressed.
Taken at f7.1 gives a good idea of quality in the corners.

Fair enough

I looked at both and tried them out (including a Nikon version as well) I walked out of the shop with the 8-16. Those 2mm do make a huge difference and that was the reason I required a wide angle lens.

Many arguments say go for the tokina 11-16.
I looked at this and it does give very sharp images.

the trade off is f2.8 with tokina or wider field with sigma.

I chose the sigma because i simply wouldnt shoot at 2.8.

I have seen a few lens tests where they say the tokina sweet spot is around f8,
The sigma however performs really well through the apertures even starting at f4.5.

But back to the future, forget the tokina! - 8-16 vs 10-20
I would pick the 8-16 again!
