Although a speedlite is on my shopping list I am not made of money, and I really love wide angles. I'd be looking at buying a lens with a zoom range of at least 10-15mm and so far these are looking to be the best competitors.

I had intended to get the Sigma as a plan but it has been introduced through reading reviews that the Tamron holds it's own, however it doesn't seem to be anywhere near as popular as the Siggy 10-20. I know a lot of 10-20mm owners love their Sigmas and have gotten some really fantastic results as seen through Flickr and here on TP and the build quality seems good - I'd be looking at more recommendations but also concerns. I have a feeling I would be slipping down to 10mm quite often and I'm most concerned about sharpness, above all else, followed by CA, V and BD.

The reviews say that the Tamron is sharper and with a slightly higher aperture it may be more capable (but not much) but the extra range is appealing when there are things obstructing using an extreme wide angle. I'd like to hear any thoughts on this lens if you've used it before/own it and how the sharpness performs.

I'm willing to listen to any other alternatives though my budget is around £300 second hand which puts the Canon equivalent too much out of my range. If, however, the Canon jumps rings around them both several times over I may be inclined to save for that but from what I've heard I don't think that's the case.

All replies appreciated.

I got the sigma 10-20 when looking to buy it i looked at the tamron but did not like the feel of it, it was not such a solid feel as the sigma and I have to see it takes some lovely photos as well....
As far as speed goes I have not found this to be a problem as most of the time shooting at about f/8 and being so wide it let in light well with a nice bit of front end glass.
go to flickr or pbase and search for the lens and you see lots of photo taken with it
