Sigma 10-20mm vs Tokina 11-16mm

Hi all,

I'm looking to add an UWA lens to go with my Nikon d300 and trying to decide between either the Sigma 10-20 or the Tokina 11-16. Both are roughly around the same price. Just wanting to get opinions on both. Is having the extra range of the Sigma more useful than having the 2.8 of the Tokina?

I've already got a Sigma 17-70mm and will be using it to shoot in cities and more landscape photos too.

Tokina is an infinitely better lens that the Sigma, there is no contest.

There are two Sigma 10-20 zooms, f/4.5-5.6 and f/3.5, though the Tokina 10-16 is sharper than both. There are also two versions of the Tokina 11-16 floating about, though they're optically the same. The MkII (with gold lettering) now has an AF motor in Nikon mount.

Personally, I think the Tokina 12-28 is the better choice, trading f/2.8 aperture that's of less benefit on a super-wide for a more useful focal length range. It's very sharp, too. For Canon users, the new 10-18mm IS is worth a look at a very tempting price.

Some nice photos there. Think the Tokina looks like a winner then. Just need to find a decent second hand one now :)

I would be very interested but can't buy until at least the end of August now really. I'll be in touch if you've still got it then though :)

You'll probably be in luck, I am basically away now til the end of august with work and holidays so it'll almost certainly be available at the end of August! :-)
