Sigma 105mm Macro (for Nikon D90)

I've just bought this lens. In the instructions there is a reference to leaving the aperture setting on the lens at f/32 and then selecting the aperture on the camera. This only goes as low as f/3 rather than f/2.8 although I think I have read somewhere this is actually f/2.8.

Can anyone clarify for me when I should be using the aperture selecion on the actul lens and when I should use it on the camera.

I have the 105mm on a D300 and the camera will simply error if not set to f/32. It will also stop down to f2.8 as long as focused to infinity.

yes, that makes sense. The instructions say to use the control ring on aperture priority but it seems to work fine if just set on f32 and then using the camera body settings. Thanks.
