Now I have my 6d, and I love shooting UWA I was thinking of buying the Siggy 12-24. I've noticed though with the mk2 they have ditched the EX designation. Is this simply because it's not built as sturdy as the mk 1 or am I reading too much into it??

I found it extremely hard to get a sharp shot with it on the nikon mount on the mk1 version so maybe the mk 2 is better. Definitely didn't deserve the EX moniker from the performance from my experience. The vignette on 12mm is absolutely brutal as well, which might be something to consider.

Sounds like you may have had a bad copy, James. Mine is crisp and sharp with very little vignetting at 12mm on FF.

Newer Sigma 12-24 Mk2 is completely different to the Mk1, and better all round. If you like ultra-wides, this is as good as it gets. Great lens

Must be a Nikon thing.

I had a MK1 12-24mm and it performed very well on my Canon 20D and 5D with Vignetting not being an issue (especially after processing n CS5) and it was sharp as well and for me was a much better lens than the Canon 10-22mm

Nope - mine is Nikon fit and is great on both my FF bodies. IIRC, the 12-24 was one of the lenses that suffered a lot from copy problems and some retailers may have been sticking returns back into their stock rather than returning it to Sigma.

I believe they dropped the EX as that’s now for constant aperture lenses only.

I shall be following this thread as I'm thinking of one for my 1D

I tested one of these out a while ago and I was pretty impressed with the results, have only read good reviews of them too.

Looks like the mk2 it is then, thanks all!

Best I've seen though is £599 from Amazon...

Edit - Digitalrev have it for £499, hmmmm.
