Thinking of up grading my 150 - 500 is this a better alterative i shoot a lot of birds and with a 2x converter will give me 600 at 5.6 i think but will i still get auto focus oe will i loose it

not canon, but i use this lens on my nikon D7000, & it auto focuses with-out any problems with the 2x converter...not sure with your camera, but would think that it would be ok...mark

I have been using the 150-500 for about 12 months and am pleaaed with results will the extra lengrh with a 2x converter make mutxh difference

The 120-300 OS with x2 knocks the 150-500 into a cocked hat. I upgraded last month and the difference is night and day.

I also made the change from 150-500 to the 120-300 and a 2X. IQ is superb, but then I was happy with my 150-500 as well. I now have an extra 100mm and a tad faster at f5.6. The downside is that it's darned heavy, but you can't have everything.

I've just made that exact change and couldn't be happier.
The only downside is I went from an OS lens to a non OS but to be honest I haven't really noticed an issue yet!

My shot was with the newer OS version, having got used to the superb OS of the Sigma 150-500 I wouldn't give up an OS lens of that length.
