Anybody got one?

From time to time I shoot some athletics, both low light indoors and outside. I also do some Motorsport type work.

Currently I have a canon 70-200 f2.8 L IS mk1 and if required a 1.4 extender.

For some reason I have found myself looking at the Sigma of late and wondered if any of you had one and how you rate it?

Got the Nikon version Gary, pin sharp, unless your going to shell out on a 300mm f2.8 there's nothing to touch it. Superb with the Sigma 1.4 tc as well.

Is it the Sport model or the original OS Model ?

I've got one. OK, four. That's the new 'Sport' model for the avoidance of doubt.

Unfortunately the weather has been so crap recently that I haven't had the opportunity to take one out for a spin. It certainly looks the part though, I have to say; the build quality is absolutely top drawer. Unfortunately that makes it pretty heavy, so I'd want to use a monopod with it - whereas I wouldn't need a monopod with a 70-200/2.8 or a 300/2.8 prime.

I have the one prior the sports version. It is a very capable lens. I am only a photo for pleasure and hobby type so probably not the best to give an opinion. It is certainly a heavy beast and benefits from a monopod or tripod, but it can work hand held if only for a short time. Works well with 1.4 extender, not tried a 2 but that is tempting.

I had the non os and know it's a beast but already missing it so tempted with an OS and wondered if sports model was that much better, bet they work well on black rapid strap if you have not tried one

I have the OS (non "S") version and live it. It's big and heavy but stunningly sharp at all focal lengths and fast to focus. Sticking a 1.4 TC on makes negligible difference as well. As far as I know there is very little difference between the two build or performance wise (the new one is slightly slimmer and has weather sealing). It is big and heavy but easily hand holdable for reasonable amounts of time. I used it mainly for a Safari I went on in April and for a few zoo trips. Stick a Blackrapid strap on it and carry it across your body and it there is no need for a mono/tripod for general use.

Think I have decided that I need to have one of these. My canon 300 is for sale and I need to move my sigma 300 on too.

Where is the best deal at present? Just given Panamoz a shout to see what they can offer. Any deals out there?
