Sigma 120-300 OS nikon fit

Just wondering if anyone has this lens in a Nikon fit and has used converters with it.

More precisely I'm thinking about 2x converters. I have a Kenko 1.4x which I'll be trying with it but was wondering if the Nikon 2x will work with it or if it's only the Sigma 2x that do.

If the Nikon version works, would it be worth the extra expense over the Sigma?

Just thought of including the Nikon 1.7 TC as well if anyone has any experience.
 
Only the Sigma and Keno converters will work with it the Nikon definitely will not.

No mate I have 2 Sigma tele's but use them with 70-200.

Debated on the 120-300 for a while and spoke to Sigma about tele's etc ages ago.
 
I have the 120-300 os and both the 1.4 and 2x sigma converters. The 1.4 on the lens is excellent , I've no complaints at all. I shot the lens and the 1.4 combo at f5.6 and my mates nikkor 70-200 f2.8 and tc2iii at f8 recently,both stopped down 1 stop and giving an effective focal length of 400mm ish on each. It was a splitting hairs exercise, both very sharp but the Nikkor combo just edged it on contrast, the new nikon 2x is a class act. That leads me to think the nikon tc2iii would be well worth trying on the sigma because my sigma 2x is acceptable but not up to the performance of the sigma 1.4, even stopped down. Trouble is its £400 and I'd still have to file the lug off and thats an expensive gamble to take, still a lot less than forking out for a 600 f4 nikkor though! As for the nikkor tc1.7 I can't see it being as sharp as the newer 2x, Ihave used it on the 200-400 nikkor in the past and its not quite as sharp wide open as the 1.4 but theres not much in it stopped down. I'll see if my mate will let me cannabilise his nikon 2x with a dremmel so I can try it on my Sigma but I dont hold out much hope!

So you're saying with the lug filed down ??? the Nikon TC's will work?

There are some Nikon tc2ii on Ebay for around the £160 mark. Might be worth it.

I think I need to start reading up on filing down the lug to see if they'll fit.
 
Yes, the nikon tc's have a metal lug on the inside of the mount that needs filing off for it to fit on the sigma's and some nikkors for that matter. If you google it I'm sure there will be an article on hiw to do it somewhere. I really wouldnt bother with the older nikon tc2 ii, I doubt it would match the current Sigma 2x for performance, one mate now uses his as a paperweight!
