Sigma 120-300mm DG and non-DG differences

I'm considering buying a 120-300mm f2.8 HSM and I've found a couple for sale but one's DG and the other isn't. The non-DG lens is quite a bit cheaper than the DG version and I'm not sure on the differences between the two, is it just the lens coating or is there more?

Also would there be any AF compatibility issues with the non-DG lens and my D700/D300 as it's an older lens?

The DG version has a different coating, to cope with digital cameras, and possibly a revised tripod mount.

The original, non DG, non OS version is still a very, very nice lens.
 
as said its just a coating. if i remember rightly the 2 versions have different groupings of elements internally.

had the non-DG until recently, i miss that lens was damn nice (albeit heavy).

Would there be any harm using a non-DG on a digital body? Also what is the AF speed like? I shoot motorsport lots and am starting to find that my Sigma 150-500 is too slow to grab initial focus at times.
 
I used the non DG on my D300,no issues at all and it was superb lens, couple it up with a 1.4 tc and it is a great set up..
 
Just placed my order for the non-DG version, I even have enough left over for a TC. Should be here tomorrow and I've got a full weekend ahead that's perfect for a play (cars, planes and maybe animals).
