Can anyone out there confirm whether a Sigma 120-400mm OS works with a Canon Extender? I know it won't AF, but I want to know whether or not it will physically fit.

Thanks Pete, but I knew that (not that you were to know).

My issue is that I have a cupboard full of Canon Extenders...

Not sure they will work

I got the 120-400 last week and am also pretty pleased with it so far. I have just borrowed a Canon 1.4x II and I can confirm it will not fit the Sigma 120-400. It almost goes in, but it appears the weather seals are catching on the inside of the lens, and it will not rotate to lock.

Looks like the Sigma 1.4x for me too.

The last canon extender I tried to use with a sigma lens (a 100-300 F4) it wouldn't fit, it extended to far into the lens body. I would guess it might be the same for the 120-400.

This is a useful site and this forum thread gives details of which Canon converters work on which Sigma lens and also several others and their inter operability.

I have a Sigma 1.4x and it seems to be very similar to the Canon except it does not protrude quite as far, so I would imagine it would fit the Sigma 120-400mm lens.

I hope this helps,

Paul

Sorry guys, but I can guess myself. I was hoping I'd get some hard information.

EDIT: Why I'm so tough on the guessers and imaginers:

(1) We have the Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 and the Sigma 300-800mm f/5.6, and Canon Extenders fit both of them just fine. So we can't extrapolate from the fact that an extender doesn't fit the Sigma 100-300mm f/4 to conclude anything about the Sigma 120-400mm.

(2) Sigma Teleconverters look almost identical to Nikon Teleconverters - at least as far as the lens mounting is concerned - but Nikon Teleconverters simply don't fit Sigma lenses. I can't for the life of me work out why. But we can't extrapolate from the fact that the Sigma and Canon look almost identical.

Thanks Paul. I'm sure I'd seen that POTN reference before, but I'd completely forgotten about it when I asked my question. I must bookmark it for future use. Unfortunately, it doesn't mention the Sigma 120-400mm!

If it's any help my Sigma 1.4 TC only extends fractionally past the mountand there is a fair gap in my 150-500 that looks as though it would accomodate a moderate protusion. The 120-400 may be similar. Why not take your TC's to your local shop and find out.
