Has any one tried this lens combo, if so whats the quality like.

Realise its MF but does the red focus confirm and beep still work?

I've tried it with a Kenko DGX Pro300 1.4x on a 7D and AFAIR the red focus confirm flashed, don't know about the beep cause I never have it turned on. I got some good moon shots with that set up.

I did try it with the older Kenko MC7 2x for the same subject but that converter isn't anywhere near as good as the newer sort. I'm looking for a Canon 2x MkIII at the moment as I've just got a 70-200 2.8 MkII but I'm fairly sure the Sigma wont work with the Canon converter so I wont be able to check that one.

Used mine with a Kenko 1.4 and it autofocused fine. Hunts a bit in low light, but as long as the conditions are right it's ok.
 
Anyone tried it with a Canon 1.4x or 2x or does it only work with the Kenko one?
 
will AF with a x1.4 but not a x2 - and you do loose some light- I had the x 1.4 sigma TC but sold it on after a few weeks

Generally most cameras need an f stop of f4 or faster to focus for example Canon's 70-200mm f2.8 and 70-200mm f4. So any lens with a f4.5/5.6 - f6.3 for example probably won't auto focus.
 
I used my Kenko Pro300 DGX 1.4x on a Canon 100-400 L and had no problems with AF on that and a 550D, 7D and 5D2. Not tried it on the Sigma in really good light though, so I don't know if it'll AF with it.
 
I had my Sigma 50-500mm OS focusing with a Kenko Pro300 DGX yesterday on the 50D. It was a bit hit and miss and due to rubbish light it only locked on about 50% of the time.

Have to say I wasn't exactly overjoyed with the results when it did achieve focus though.

Edit: In manual focus it didn't beep.

Cheers Ken looks like it loose a fair bit of quality, having said that handheld quite a handfull would have thought
 
thank you all for comments, I think that certain Kenko models will allow full AF depending on light :thumbs: although Les managed it with a sigma converter.

I have seen a lot of good shots with this lens and was thinking what it would be like with the converter on as it would be if my calcs are right 700mm equivilant as to my current set up giving me 420mm (not including crop factor)
The only thing at those sort of lengths a tripod would be probably a must, and carrying too much gear does me in :D
 
This is pushing it to the limit, but as against no shot I think it still delivers a decent enough image. The bird was over a 1/4 mile away, theres a lot of atmosheric crud in that much air :D

Not at all, don't worry. :) I just prefer to get a shot than just walk away without trying. I'll try and find something better.

I've tried with the 7D using a Sigma 1.4 TC with the pins taped and no joy whatsoever. I havent tried with a Kenko non reporting converter however. As a side point the Canon 1.4 TC Mark II will not fit the Sigma 150-500 as the protrusion on the converter will not physically fit inside the sigma lens.

I have used the 150-500 with a Canon 1D4 and the Sigma 1,4TC (pins taped) and it gives quite reasonable results.

The Siberian Stonechat was taken using this combo. I do get very good light out here mind you so not sure how this would fare in the UK in perhaps duller conditions.

Thank you for posting those Andrew :thumbs: and very good results that I would be happy with, however a 1DMKIV is not likely to happen, mind you there's always the lottery :D
