Have been looking at one of these the other day and wondered if anyone had used one for sports. I'm currently using a Canon 200mm L 2.8 which would obviously be better in low lighting conditions, but need a more flexible focal range.

Any thoughts and opinions welcolmed.
 
Superb lens for the money. Can produce reasonably sharp shots at all focal length when stopped down one, and isn't too bad wide open.

If you can afford it, I'd consider the 100-400L as well. I have one of these, and it's another superb lens. It's more expensive than the sigma, and has a slightly less effective stabiliser, but it's 1/3 stop faster at 400mm and sharper, as well as being smaller and lighter than the sigma. The push/pull zoom isn't to everyone's taste though.
 
It's a great lens though you would experience a serious drop in light from f2.8, and your 20D would struggle at high ISO, so unless shooting in good light you may have to part with some serious dosh for a longer faster lens like the 400 f2.8, probably cheaper to get a 7D
 
Lee - the 150-500 is about to go up by more than 10%.
