Just got this lens. Just a thought..how much punishment, such as knocks can lenses take? I had it sitting on its tripod collar and it rocked forward with a thud. It moved the distance from the height of the lens to a table. So a 10cm at most it rocked forward and the plastic of the lens hit the wood of a table. Should I be worried? Or are these lenses capable of with standing a lot more punishment. I've always wondered about that. And it was a lot of money so I worry...

Have you taken some test shots with it? If so, are they ok? If so, I would say the lens is ok.

I have the 120-400mm version of this lens and have given it a couple of knocks against fence posts etc by accident, and mine is still fine. Obviously it's to be avoided if possible, but I'm sure the lens would take an impact like you describe with no problems.

I am just overly cautious. Particularly with an expensive piece of kit. I left the tripod plate attached to the tri-pod collar onthe lens making it unstable when I place it on the table and it just rocked forward. I have takens pics with it and it focuses fine and changes aperture ok. SO it should be fine but I just worry :)
Thanks
