Hi folks,

I've been looking to pickup a longer lens for my Nikon D800 as currently the longest I have is a 50mm.

I am considering a Nikon 85mm but having had one before I think I'd prefer something longer which has got me to looking at the Sigma 150mm, I notice there are 2 versions one with OS and one without, knowing that in the past when there is an OS and non-OS version the non-OS one is sometimes regarded as the better lens I wanted to ask for opinions!

While I would be interested in using it for some macro its likely that the majority of use will be non-macro work like landscapes, would this lens do well for "non-macro"?
 
I have the OS version. It was a lot more expensive than the older, non-OS version at the time, but I wanted to use it for general shooting as well as macro, and thought re-sale value would maintain better too. It didn't, the price on the OS version has dropped significantly since I bought it last year. I'd say it's the only difference between the two, and OS isn't strictly important for macro. If you can get the non-OS for a good price, I'd say go for it. If the price difference isn't all that great, then go for the OS, it's always a nice extra to have.
 
as a multi-purpose lens the 105mm vr would be worth considering too. I've had in the past the Sigma 150 (non-OS), the Tamron 90 and the Nikon 105 and 60. I've settled on the 60 purely because of the size and focal length suits me, but all four are great lenses, with the 105 being the most versatile imho.
