Sigma 150mm non OS v new OS Version

I use the non-OS version and can't fault it. 'fraid I can't compare though, as not used the OS version.
 
Another vote for the non OS. I have it and its very good!
 
I have the OS version, it's a great lens on the D800E - unfortunately mine seems to be a bit wonky. Can't remember it ever getting a knock or anything, but the internals jiggle about - you can actually see the aperture ring move about inside and it makes a rattling sound :/ Even more unfortunate is that I really only discovered it when someone came to view it with intent to buy. I just wasn't using it enough, planned to get a prime and cheaper macro with the money. Well, I'm stuck with it until I figure the rattling issue out, but it still shoots absolutely fine! I just need to make sure everything is all straightened up inside before I shoot.

When it was new though, it was a cracker of a lens.
 
I've had a couple of lenses in the past with stabilisation which feel as if something is loose inside, but only when the stabilisation was turned on.

If you turn off the camera while OS/IS/VR is active it can cause a rattle... I'm guessing the floating OS elements are not "parked" and it's the cause. I'm not sure what you mean by seeing the aperture ring move internally...

I have the Non-OS version and I'm very happy with it... I haven't used the OS version though. If you like to do macro handheld w/o lighting, I would think OS would be a huge benefit.
 
I only have the non OS version too - & its great - The only thing that would make me upgrade would be if the focussing speed is a lot faster... The OS bit doesn't worry me..

The rear end of the lens, when you look through, you can see the element physically move about when you jiggle it - is that normal? I meant the floating elements, not aperture ring, sorry.

I don't remember it being as rattley before, when I first got it. I'm thinking it took a knock sometime in the bag maybe, and something shifted out of place.
 
I have the OS version and it is great. The effectiveness of the OS declines as you get to 1:1, so if this is where you shoot most, it may be better to get the non-OS version.

had this with a sigma 105 macro ,it was the glue that had dried and gone brittle in the heat ,i think it cost about £40 for a sigma repair ,they are very good ,fast and cheap to
 
Yeah, for very intricate macro I would always suggest non-OS and manual focus.

I used to have a 105 too [Nikon one] I actually sold it to get the 150. I just wanted that bit more distance between me and the bugs :D

I'd say it needs servicing, the cam shops anywhere near me are extortionate with their pricing for repairs though :(

I did comment on your post in another thread, What the black fox said above ( he's my Dad) is about a glass element that fell out of place ( It was my lens at the time). Im having the same "issue" as you with the Jiggle but Mines doing it with a brand new lens so I would suggest it's normal or there's a fault with the lens on occasion. I might get in touch with sigma and find out but I can't be without the lens for my holiday shortly.
