Yes
Just purchased this lens superb iq but unless it's locked to the f22 it won't work just comes up with the fee error, anyone experienced this? It does the same both on the d700 and d7100 works fine locked on f22 just want to check it's not me before returning it

That's normal

It's still says 2.8 is it worth living with?

If you lock it on f22 and flick switch!!!! You then turn thumb wheel on camera body to change the f stop! Don't turn the ring on lens

Yes thanks works fine I guess it's a sigma thing, couldn't find anything that mentioned this

My 50mm nikon d series is exactly the same

Is there a good way of getting out of the fringing in low light guess external flash?

Yup. This used to catch me out and the lock being accidentally moved should have been the first thing I looked but for some reason it was always the last thing I thought of :D

Yep it's stumped me before for hours! The lock on my 50mm 1.8 is not stiff!

Is common for AFD lens. Put it to the highest number F stop and lock it then camera will take care of the rest.

If you use nikon manual focus lens then you need to set lens profile before you can turn the aperture ring.
