Sigma 17-35mm f/2.8-4 D EX Aspherical?

No. It's a Sigma's poor attempt at making Full Frame ultra wide lens. You should be considering something like Tamron 17-50mm instead.
I have the Sigma 17-35mm EX DG, which I think was a second attempt at this zoom. According to Fred Miranda, it was thought little better than the Aspherical.
Mine was tested back-to-back with a Nikon 17-55mm at a shop, and I thought the Nikon was better, but only wide open and near the edges. So mine is OK. I think copy variation is the issue here.
If you are on a crop body, it will likely seem better.

I had one on CAF. Optically, corners weren't razor Sharp but adequate and centre sharpness was good. Build was fine and AF was good too, although I know sine bodies did have problems with this lens unless it was rechipped by sigma. Sold mine a few years back for similar money. It's no Canon 16-35 or17-40 but its far from aweful
