Sigma 17-70 f2.8

Had a non OS version and it was very very good. Lots of nice detail. My dad had the non OS version and now has the version with OS and he loves it! You can get real close to your subject too so flowers, insects etc are easy to capture.

Only f/2.8 at the very widest end and soon changes

Still a good enough lens though or at least I thought mine was

I used to have one, replaced it with the 18-50 f2.8 which was a much better lens optically, and has f2.8 through its full zoom range.

I've got one, it's a great everyday lens. Have a search around on the forum as I think there was a couple of threads about this already.

orry folks, am I right in saying that this lens will only operate at f2.8 at the 17mm end and not right through the zoom range.

They get good reviews, bit (lot) dearer than the 17-70mm though

What about the Tamron 17-50mm, the non vc version in particular seems to get good things said about it

I tried this lens on a friends 550D on Saturday and i was well impressed. I wonder if it would be worth me buying baring in mind i have the Nikon AF-S 18-70 f3.5-4.5? Will i notice much difference?
