Been offered this lens in mint condition for £170. Should i take this? Anyone used this lens care to give an opinion of it?

It's pretty highly regarded as an upgrade from the kit lens! Much more robust, and f/2.8 at the wide end.

If you don't use the 50-70mm range much, and can afford to spend a little extra, I'd strongly recommend the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 (I've got one!) or the Sigma 18-50 f/2.8. Constant f/2.8 across the range is very nice, and not for too much extra cash. If you need a longer focal range though, I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the sigma 17-70!

can get the 17-50 for £269.99. Might have a read of the reviews and decide.

It's a great lens, mine is rarely off my camera. I got it second hand from here for £200! Absolute bargain, considering the alternative option was the canon 17-55 for only an extra £500 :gag:

When I purchased my 17-70 2 years ago I intended to use it as a stop gap but it impressed me with it's sharpness, etc I still have it and it spends 90% of the time on my camera.

I had one and it was a very good lens and well worth £170. My dad still has his and he loves it!
