I would love to buy a Canon 24-70L but realistically (because I am trying to behave a bit
) I really really shouldn't buy one for a good while.
I currently have a sigma 17-70 and I like the build quality, weight, I dont really use the f/2.8 as its only on the wide end so not much use inside as I'm usually zoomed in a bit so min is about f/4.
In my mind the only 2 let downs it has is 1) it is slightly soft on my camera, could I get the pair calibrated for each other or is it not possible? and 2) it hunts like anything, to the point of not taking a single picture sometimes in low light. Is that more my camera or the lens? Would the HSM on the sigma help with low light hunting? And can I expect it to be any sharper than my current one?
I will hopefully be upgrading to a 40D soon, (would that help with low light focussing?) and is there a clear winner between the Canon and Sigma in IQ? Obviously the Canon is more expensive but the Sigma has a full stop advantage across the range...
By the way this is for general walk around stuff!
