Can anyone please tell me if this is worth getting for £530.00. Please dont tell me to get more expensive lenses as I dont have the funds!! But alternates are welcome!

I had one a few years ago and found it to be a bit soft - certainly compared with the L lenses. The 50-500 has a much better reputation. Yes it is more expensive new, have you considered second hand?
 
I suppose I could go used. Where is a good place?

50-500 is not an option for me new.

iv'e a 170-500 and i find it a very good lens.i use it for wildlife.i only use the manual focus as i find it a tad to slow and noisy for my liking but its a very good lens for the money imho..
 
I have used this lens (still have it but don't use it a lot since I bought the 100 -400) and found it was good for its price. An alternative may be the tamron 200 - 500
