Been looking at getting a walkabout type lens and I have noticed that Currys have a SIGMA 18-250 mm f/3.5-6.3 DC HSM OS (for Nikon) its on sale at the moment and wondered if it is worth buying? I want it for a bit of general Photography when I go travelling next month. I had planned on taking the following lenses with me travelling , Sigma 10-20mm - Nikon 35mm and a Tamron 90mm. I do not need anything exactly too fast, just want something for some landscapes, Portraits and just general shots.

Advice would be great in this, thanks

**Oh forgot to mention I have the old Tamron 18-200mm, which does not seem to have a great image quality anymore, would the sigma be better??

I have both (Canon mount - now used by the youngest). As walkabout lenses they are okay. I think I prefer the Tamron 18-200 (non VC) over the Sigma 18-250, but to be honest, my Tamron 17-50 f2.8 usually lives on my camera as IMO it has better IQ.

Have a look through my flickr stream for samples. Wings & Wheels, LeMans this year and the forest rally shots from this year will be the Sigma, earlier than that, the Tamron.
