Now I am not the biggest Sigma fan because their quality control quite frankly has been abysmal but have been keen to try their new lenses for a while as they had reportedly upped their game. I was always slightly skeptical having been reassured before by their senior management that they were changing their game and not seeing results. I suppose the fact that it took them that long to turn it around (3yrs) shows to some extent how much work was needed. It does seem they couldn't fix what they had and ended up taking a ground up approach. To that end I still would not recommend any Sigma lens that was not part of their Art or Sport range because it's just too variable and not worth the effort. That doesn't mean they are no good but if time is money then I wouldn't get say a 10-20 and hope it worked first time round- chances are it wont although I appreciate YMMV

Anyway, had my hands on a mates 18-35 today (not attached to body) and was genuinely impressed
. I must say I really liked the build quality- really nice finish and smooth focus ring and zoom ring- internal zoom as well. A fair weight to it as well. 72mm filter. He assures my AF is fast and it's very sharp. Seen some images on the camera LCD before as were still on card and they looked sharp but always hard to really say. I'll look to get some shots form it in the next couple of weeks but if the image quality is consistent with build I think it would make a great step up from the kit lens for people.
