Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 vs Nikkor 18-105mm VR?

Hi Guys

I am currently using a 18-105mm VR lens as my general walk around lens.

I have been offered a Sigma 18-50mm f2.8

Now I love having a constant apature lens. but I may miss the range.

Does anybody think one is significantly better that the other?

i used to have the sigma and loved it to bits. only reason i had to sell was due to the move to the 1D.
