Sigma 18-50mm on nikon d300 UNDEREXPOSED

Hi guys.

I purchased sigma 18-50mm not so long ago and I have noticed that especially at 18mm pictures are coming out extremely underexposed. By the way I use 51point focus and matrix metering, pictures are mostly landscapes. Any tips?

I bought a sigma 24-70 2.8 a while back and that kept underexposing at 24mm, 30mm and 70mm was very weird!
ending up sending to to sigma who put a new CPU chip in it for £40 and that solved the problem I used it on d90 and d300s

let me know what you think and what steps should i take if CPU needs replacing. The lens was bought on evilbay, so rather not returnable....

That comparison wouldn't indicate a fault to me.

Just that the camera is exposing for the bright sky in the 18mm shot, whereas in the 50mm shot the building takes up more space so it exposes for that.

Try a comparison without two large areas of different light levels.

i agree, in the 1st you should use spot metering.

so, what you're saying is to use spot metering, even for landscapes... ok, i will do that then...

Not even for landscapes, just so you can correctly expose the bit you want exposed properly.

in the first pic there is a lot of sky so the camera is under exposing to get the sky right, in the 2nd pic there is alot less sky so its exposing right.
if you had used spot metering in the first pic the building would have been properly expose and the sky blown more.
