Sigma 24-105 f4

I am very excited about 35mm f/1.4 (cheaper and sharper than canon), but I can't stop asking myself what is the point of this one?

1. Canon already makes one, it is affordable and pretty good (not amazing)
2. This one doesn't appear to better that - http://www.sigma-global.com/en/lenses/cas/product/art/a_24_105_4/features.html - scroll down to MTF. Is it going to be really cheap then?

I expected 24-70 f/2.8 OS or even more... Tamron did it a year ago.
 
It would be interesting to compare this and the Canon out in the real world. I really don't worry about charts and such, the end result is what matters. I've had some excellent shots with my 5D3 and the Canon 24-105 and it would take some beating, I suppose it all depends on the price, silly cheap and there'll be people trading in the Canon, silly expensive and no one will let their Canon go.

Sigma's MTFs show very little, though I agree they don't seem dazzling. Then neither do the published MTFs for the 34/1.4 either... :thinking:

Agree a new 24-70/2.8 would be nice. Presumably Sigma thought that could wait a bit longer, as they already have one and even though it's not class-leading, it's not bad and great value.

IMHO this new 24-105 has got to be both better than Canon/Nikon equivalents, and a bit cheaper. Somehow I think it will be, but 82mm filters is a shame.
