I've got a Sigma 24-70 EX DG Macro that I've had since the summer but not used a great deal as I've not been using my camera much, it's a great lens and can produce some really sharp images, but I'm not entirely happy with the focus all of the time. I tend to use manual focus most of the time, but occasionally I'll go with auto focus. What I'm seeing through the view finder and what is appearing on my screen don't quite match, I've adjusted the diopter settings as a first port of call, and ended up back where i had it originally. Today I've taken some shots of the focus test chart found here at the end of the page.

I've attached the images from the lens test are these results what should be expected and do I just need to improve my technique, or is there a problem with the lens?

After doing the test and looking at the results I think I probably need to improve my technique, but it would be nice for someone to confirm this for me too.

Thanks in advance

Kev

I can't see the images at my place of work - however if your viewfinder differs to the final image then it is not the lens.

However, the viewfinder is pretty small in comparison to an image viewed at 100% - could it just be you are not seeing the subtle differences through the viewfinder?

I had the same lens for a while, but could not get consistant autofocus accuracy. I did a couple of tests and the same scene tripod etc - but the AF would only be spot on about 1 in 3. Might be time to send it to Sigma for repair.

Looking at those pictures, they seem fine to me.
I shoot weddings with my Siggy and while the hit ratio probably isnt as good as the Canon version, i take enough pictures of the same thing to cover my ass :)

Thanks for your input with these guys, I'll get out and use the lens again tomorrow, and report back with my findings. I have noticed that the focus on the lens when in manual mode can be very sensitive, I guess it's just this that I need to get used to.
