Hi all,
wondering this lens ok? any pros/cons ? mechanical issues? optics quality?

looking some on ebay right now. not sure what is good price to pay for it ( sadly i'm new on this forum, so can't access classified thread :shrug: ).

I want to get it before christmas.

how much are they on this forum (:rules: :shrug:) maybe it's worth waiting and get it from here :)

If I was considering this range of lens then the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 seems to do better, I had one 2nd hand but it suffered from a focal plane issue, so it would go out of focus as it went across the photo. Returned and as yet haven't got another as it would only be as a backup anyway.
 
I used one for 2 1/2 years before getting the Nikon version and still keep it in my bag for close up stuff, where the shorter focal length is better. Optically mine is good, obviously not nikon quality, but it's not nikon prices either. It is a Sigma, so quality will vary lens to lens unfortunately, but if you get a good one, they are worth their cost. When it comes to sigma lenses though, I would recommend buying new, so if its a 'Friday' lens you can get it exchanged. ;)

i was lucky enough to buy one off this forum, it`s sharp at 2.8 and insanely sharp at f4, only problem is now is i have a 17-70 and a 24-70 and really i should sell one, if i was offered good enough price for the 24-70 then i may be tempted to sell but hard parting with a lens if they both perform fantastic.

Sweet spot in the centre is nice.
They are hit and miss though. Cant wait to get the Canon version
 
In my opinion, they are great lenses if you get a good one and sometimes less so if you get a bad one. Purchase from a shop that will let you take some test shots ideally - this will reduce the chance of getting a lemon.

The good ones really are good though - it's worth expending the effort to check them out!
 
Arent the Nikon ones known to be better than the Canon Models for landing "lemons"?
Random question, I just remember reading that somewhere :p
