I'm looking to buy a new lens - something mainly for portrait use.

Was thinking of the Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 anyone got any experience of this lens?

For information sake, my camera is a 400D

Its my main portrait lens albeit on a nikon, both outdoors and with studio lights. I have no problems and its nice and sharp. However i have read that some have issues when used with flash and ttl [i think],they misfocus or something, though I am sure someone can be more accurate about the exact problem and I think it would be covered by warranty on a new one and of course it may be the case that sigma has dealt with it on latest models.

Great lens, but find a used bargain and don't pay new prices...they've SHOT up.

We have a 24-70 in our arsenal, excellent sharp lens, can't fault it for the money... never had any issues using it with TTL flash either (it's about a year or so old now)

i've used one on my 400d as my main lens for a while. i really like it.. i really like the way it looks and feels. check my links below, all photos taken with a 400D + 24-70. mostly at F2.8 aswell

I have one and the AF can be a bit off and noisy but you are not gonna do much better for the price tbh.

This TBH, it's nice and sharp, if it hits the focus properly, which can as sidxms says can be a bit hit and miss.
